Brochis splendens, Castelnau, 1855 Origin: Brasil; Rio tocatins, Peru; RioAmbiyacu, Iquitos region, upper Amazon, Ecuador; Rio Napo, Peru. Usually the fish occupy the slow flowing parts near the riverbank. Etymology: splendens(L): radiant.
Brochis splendens grows larger than the very similar Corydoras aeneus, and can easily be differentiated by the deeper body and larger dorsal fin. All Corydoras have 6-8 rays in the dorsal (Burgess) while B. splendens has 10-12.

Brochis splendens and the similar Corydoras species are very good aquarium fish. They are small, peaceful, helpful in keeping a tank clean, and are very entertaining. These fish will shoal together in groups and frolic pretty much all of the time.
