The African Butterfly cichlid is a small riverine cichlid from western Africa; specifically Sierra Leone, southeast Guinea, and western Liberia.
The Blue Ram Cichlid, also known as the Blue Ram, Dwarf Ram, or Butterfly Cichlid, is considered by many to be the more beautiful cichlids.

It has a host of common names including; the Butterfly Cichlid, the Ram Cichlid, Blue Ram, German Blue Ram and Gold Ram. Although they are rarely referred to as Butterfly Cichlids any more, most of the other names are commonly used.
The Blue Ram is also known as the Butterfly Cichlid. It should not be confused with Anomalochromis thomasi, the African Butterfly Cichlid. It is a social fish that will form pairs, which remain "faithful" to each other.
