The scientific name "caeruleus" means blue and refers to the fact that the black streak along the top of the dorsal fin turns blue on males during breeding. Most Labidochromis caeruleus are yellow, however some specimens are white or light blue.
Labidochromis caeruleus is one of my favorites. They are one of the more docile mbuna (rockdwelling) species, and are an ideal fish, for novice cichlid keepers.

The electric yellow cichlid, Labidochromis caeruleus, is a freshwater perciform fish, a cichlid.
caeruleus is one of the most well known and widely available of all the African Cichlids. The yellow fish we see in stores is actually a natural yellow morph of the original L.caeruleus which is blue (hence the scientific name).

This particular morph of L. caeruleus comes from Lion's Cove, on the south side and is characterized by a white edge on the dorsal fin and a white belly.
