Caridina japonica (Amano shrimp)
Made popular by Takashi Amano in his nature aquarium style aquascapes, these shrimp are fairly hardy algae eaters that will eat algae that most other algae eaters leave alone.

BREEDING: The caridina japonica larvae won't survive in a fresh water tank. They need brackish water during the first weeks. In nature, they get carried downstream after hatching.

Anyway, here is some additional information from the books: Yamato-numa-ebi (Japanese pond shrimp): Caridina japonica temp 15-28C, pH neutral, size 5cm (typically sold 3cm) Bee shrimp : Atydae sp.

The freshwater shrimp Caridina japonica goes by many names. It is known as the Amano shrimp, Japanese marsh shrimp, grass shrimp, Yamato Nuna Ebi, Yamato shrimp, algae-eating shrimp, and the Japanese swamp shrimp.

A species of freshwater shrimp is named the Amano shrimp (Caridina japonica) after him. After discovering this species' ability to eat quantities of algae, Amano asked a local distributor to special order several thousand of them.

The tank should be furnished with a tight-fitting cover. Combine the Fiddler crab with medium sized brackish water species. This species will eat almost any foods.
