Carnegiella marthae prefers a planted aquarium with a few floating plants. A schooling fish, the Marthae Hatchet is best kept in a group of six or more. A hood on the aquarium is necessary, as this fish likes to jump.

PD : Has a convex body. The ventral fins are very small and the back is fairly straight. The wing-like pectoral fins are transparent and often measure up to one-half the fish's overall body length.
