Carp-like Goldfish
The most simple variety, closest to the original carp that created all these fish varieties.

The Chinese kept carp and started breeding them selectively during the Sung Dynasty (960-1279). Records show these fish were kept for purely decorative purposes; people were forbidden to eat them.

As a member of the carp family, the Red & White Ryukin is generally quite hardy. They will do well in 30 gallon aquariums or larger, as well as backyard garden ponds of 180 gallons or more.

Barbs and danios belong to the large Cyprinid family of freshwater tropical fish which also includes all koi, carp, goldfish, and minnows. Tetras belong to the smaller Characin family.

OTHER BREEDING INFO: Breedin this fish will only be accomplished in an aquarium if carp hypophysis is injected (please note that only 2 mg of hypophysis per 100G of live weight). The hypophysis must be applied when the fish's ripeness is at its peak.

This family includes minnows, carp, goldfish, and barbs. North America alone boasts over 290 species of minnows, not to mention carp. Cyprinids occur throughout the Americas, Africa, and Eurasia.

I think festivums are cool I have owned two small 2 inch ones for about five months in a 50 gallon tank with some convicts, a red top mbuna,tiger loach,pleco and a white carp .

All goldfish are members of the carp group and are generally quite hardy. The Ryukin Goldfish will do well in a tank of 30 gallons of water or more with a fine gravel bottom and hardy, cold water plants.

It`s a carp`s relative, the difference between the 2 species is that goldfish don`t have mustaches. Carassius auratus specie comes from Carassius auratus gibelio specie, the difference between them is at coloration, scales and fins.

Breed with thought, think about the fin, and the species. Example: spined and silky makes wasp, stickfish and carp make a grouper, so the spined and a silky carp will make the wasp grouper, a magic fish, or you can do it the other way around.

But, if we use catfish and carp as a reasonable proxy for feeder goldfish, then the picture is even worse, with a single feeding of goldfish providing more than 20 times the saturated fat as a feeding of the average marine prey fish.

White Clouds, Danios, Rasboras, and Barbs are all Asian fish related to the Carp and the Minnow. All of these fish belong to the family Cyprinidae. White Clouds, Danios, Rasboras, and Barbs are small, active, hardy, and colorful.

These Chinese fish may have been early example of carp, but the Japanese developed the Koi we know today approximately 200 years ago. The Japanese developed the bloodlines that define the standard in which Koi are judged.

They are Cyprinids in fact, like Goldfish and Carp. The body of the fish is jet black. Some fins may be tipped in white and, as its common name suggests, the caudal fin is red. Older or unhealthy specimens may be faded in color.

High in protein and fats, it is a nutritious food source (and an excellent natural laxative) for vegetarian fishes such as goldfish and carp; the common name comes from the fact that ducks are very fond of eating this plant.
