The fish above is a Parachanna obscura, it is not the best snakehead to buy because it is the most aggressive and it rarely eats anything that isn't alive. It can grow about 35 cm long.

Snakeheads (Channa sp.) are very powerful predators that want to be alone, and require a huge tank to attempt to mix with others. They are sometimes blamed for actually breaking the glass of an aquarium.

Snakehead fish ( channa )
Types of Snakeheads
There are many types of snakehead fish in the aquarium hobby. This is due to their aggressive predatory nature and nice patterns. A snakehead fish will attack any fish that can fit into its mouth.

Channa orientalis
SYN: Channa gachua, Ophiocephalus kelaartii
PD: An elongated species with a fan-like caudal fin. The rear half of the fish is laterally compressed.

Mahachai, Channa striata, Trichopsis vitatus, Trichogaster trichopterus, Anabas testudineus and Aplocheilus panchax.

Gymnallabes typus is much more uncommon than its close relative Channallabes apus which is offered at least from time to time in the trade. They both look very much alike but have differences easily recognizable to a hobbyist who knows where to look.
