Channel Catfish - Ictalurus punctatus (Rafinesque, 1818)
Channel catfish are a multi-faceted fish if ever there was one.

Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) also get quite large and require very large quarters (like the Mississippi River).

Channel catfish and tilapia are examples of warmwater species. Their temperature range for growth is between 75-90ºF. A temperature of 85ºF for catfish and 87ºF for tilapia is considered optimum.

Varieties:
Channel catfish, white catfish, blue catfish, and several varieties can be found.

edu Verd> Does anyone have information about raising native (or so-called native) Verd> fish such as bluegill, crappie, bass, channel catfish, etc.? Here's what I know about the above species: Sunfish: Treat them like a cichlid.

However, larger species (like Oscars, Channel Catfish, Plecostomus, and Tinfoil Barbs), or messier species (like Oscars, Piranhas, Koi, and African Cichlids), marine fish (like Blue Damsels, Klein's Butterflies, Bangai Cardinalfish, ...

I have 20 albino tiger barbs with 4 albino corys, 2 albino channel catfish, and 1 albino rainbow shark. Well, even in this large number, they will still nip fins.

An albino form of the Channel Catfish has been developed and has become popular, due to the fact that it is much easier to view in dark-bottomed ponds than the wild-type.
Comments:
Too large to live in any home aquarium.

---Tilapia with off-flavor (as in channel catfish) are hard or impossible to sell (except maybe as brood stock).
---Market price (for whole weight) varies depending on market supply/demand, whether live or dead, quality, weight, and other factors.

My feeder tuffy disappeared overnight but he's doing okay with my channel catfish.
