Ciliated

For those of you interested in looking at things under the microscope, Ichthyophthirius is a large ciliated protozoan with a U-shaped macronucleus. Its shape changes as it moves through the water, and it appears to "tumble" as it moves.

DISEASE caused by ciliated protozoan (Cryptocaryon irritans in saltwater and Ichthyophthirius multifilis in freshwater tanks). May be caused by non - irradiated livefoods. May be accompanied by other skin and gill parasites.

Rotifers are characterized by the presence of a ciliated organ on the head (called corona) that capture food, and a specialized pharynx (called mastax) with hard jaws (called trophi).

I am a strong believer in and advocate of the use of salt, usually accompanied by increased temperatures, in the treatment of the commonest ectoparasite we see, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, or Ich, a ciliated protozoan.

Ich is short for the name of a ciliated protozoan of the genus Ichthyophthirius. Ich is usually present all the time in aquaria in small numbers, just like germs are in the air we breathe.

Costiasis or Costia is a freshwater ciliated protozoa parasite species called Ichthyobodo necatrix or Ichtyobodo pyriformis. Formally known as species Costia necatrix.

Rotifers: A phylum that includes organisms that have ciliated mouths and a retractable "foot" for anchoring.
