Claspers

Aquarium Clarias BatrachusCleaner Shrimp

Just like their relatives Sharks and marine Rays, male freshwater stingrays have claspers, one on either side of the base of the tail and slightly underneath.

Husbandry and Breeding: These fishes are elasmobranches ("non-bony fishes") like sharks, marine rays, mantas and show an EXTREMELY clear sexual dimorphism, in which the mature males carry two claspers (along both sides of the tail).

The Males have claspers which come from underneath the stem of the tale. These get rather large and need to be before breeding will take place. Males normally around 15' and females slightly bigger.

Feeding tentacles with claspers attached to gonophores with developing eggs in some species.

Only visual difference is the males have two claspers extending from their anal fins. These are their sexual reproduction parts.
Breeding: ...
