Clown loaches are also regarded as a natural way of controlling an infestation of small snails in the aquarium. This being said, a person considering them for this purpose must also consider their future needs with regards to a large aquarium.
The clown loach is an active schooling fish that is best kept in small groups of three to six fish. It will tolerate tankmates of other species, although docile species may become agitated by the constant activity of this fish.
I have 2 clown loaches in a 29 gal with 3 platys 2 danios 1 algae eater and 3 kulhili loaches. Is the tank too small for the clown loaches or just fine? Any suggestions would be great. They are the coolest fish to watch and stand out the most.
There have only been occasional spawnings reported in aquaria, of which there are no detailed accounts. The Clown loach is now bred commercially on fish farms in large numbers.

Clown Loaches are a hardy species. They should be in water with a temperature between 77 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Their water should have a pH in a range of six to seven and a half. Clown Loaches are a little more prone to Ich than most fish.

Clown Loaches don't breed in captivity and not until they are a foot long, but lately, I heard that the Univeristy of Florida had found a secrete formula funded by Florida fish farmers to successfully bred Clown loaches at much smaller size.
The clown loach is the number one choice for eating snails. It is a scavenger by nature but has a sweet tooth for snails. They can be purchased small (usually about an inch or two) and will eat any snail it can fit into it's mouth.
For ridding your tank of snails, you have little recourse other than vacuuming as many up as possible, though clown loaches are rumored to eat snails. The SNAIL SECTION of the DISEASE FAQ describes individual species of snails and specific remedies.
Clown Loaches - B. macracantha, Yo-Yo Loaches - B. lohachata, Skunk Loaches - B. horae, Blue Loaches - B. modesta, and Striated Loaches - B. striata are all seen in the hobby.
Laboratory studies proved that it is safe for even the most delicate fish species, including tetras, discus fry and scaleless fish, like clown loaches. It can be used with all marine fish, invertebrates, such as live corals and anemones.
The Clown Loach, Yo-Yo Loach, Dwarf Checkered Loach, Skunk Botia and the Bengal Loach are all Botia that may be found in a community tank and will eat snails.

The most popular Botia, the Clown Loach, is definitely not a good starter fish, nor is the Kuhli Loach. Some Botias, such as the Rainbow (Blue) Botia, can become very aggressive and should be watched closely.
Social: Does best as the only Angel or in schools of at least five. Will successfully live with Catfish, Mollies, Silver Dollars, Clown Loaches, Gouramis. Lives at any level in the aquarium.

My Tiretrack has lived with firemouths, Oscars, clown loaches, my clown knife fish and various catfish with very few aggression problems at all. Tiretracks are beautiful fish and well worth the hours spent digging worms in the garden.

clear bottomed and has no substrate, but in the planted tank I don't see it at all.They will even feed on insects and other smaller snails and their eggs, so all in all I think every tank should have at least one, not to be mixed with clown loaches ...
It will appear that the tetras brought the ich to the new tank, but they can actually be reacting to small levels that were already present. Ich frequently affects tetras and clown loaches. It can also affect many other fish, including exotic plecos.
