Cory Cats
Members of the family Callichthyidae, a family of armored catfish from South America. Corys are small (generally 2 1/2" long or less), schooling fish that are always searching the bottom of the tank for food.

The Cory Catfish is a very hardy fish, and can tolerate many water conditions. However, they prefer water temperatures between 73 and 81 degrees fahrenheit. The pH of their water should slightly acidic to neutral, with a level ranging from 6.5 to 7.2.

Cory cats come from the same waters as discus, depending on
the species, and many are more than capable of living permanently
in temps of 82-86f with no problems.
Swordtails come from mexico and places where water temps are
commonly 82-84F.

When adding cory cats to your aquarium, unless you have an extremely small tank, under 2 1/2 gallons, always get two cory cats. They do much better in pairs, and are much more fun to watch.

This version of Cory cat is more rare than many of it's co-species. However, like other Corys this one makes a great addition to a community aquarium, especially in groups.

I have a total of 15 small fish in this tank including 2 cory cat fish, neon tetras, rasbora hets and otocinclis, and a few other tetra.

Then, uh-oh I noticed that a cory cat was missing. I looked down into the bucket (even though the siphon hose has a safety screen), but no fish. I sat there and pondered about the disappearance of the fish.

Fish like Cory catfish are sensitive to salt and would almost certainly die if you tried to treat white spot with salt in their tank.
The second problem is in its effectiveness.

If you have bottom dwelling fish like Cory Cats, you will want to use something like algae wafers or pellets that sink to the bottom.

Almost all of these are cory cats - fish in the genus Corydoras. These little, armoured catfish, mostly from South America, are comical, attractive, peaceful, and easy to keep.

It has one lamprologus brichardi, 4 neolamprlogus brevis, 2 small cory cats, 1 bumblebee goby, and 1 kuhli loach. Substrate is sand in this one, unlike the gravel in the other two tanks.

Description: The False Blochi Catfish is large for a cory catfish, but still small in comparison to many catfish species. This tends to be a hardy species and is a little tougher than some of the other Corydoras species.

Members of the South American Corydoras genus are freshwater temperate and tropical catfish in the armored catfish family (Corydoradinae subfamily), and are commonly referred to as cory catfish, cory cats, or simply corys.

Peppered Cory: The hobby still imports most Corydoras species from the wild, but the peppered cory was one of the first tank-bred cory catfish. Peppered cories sold in shops are now almost always farm-raised.

Suggested tankmates. Platies, mollies, some of the slower tetras (neons, cardinals, rummy nose), cherry barbs and cory cats are likely tankmates, as are angelfish in larger aquariums.

``Slim-bodied'' could be fish such as neon tetras, White Cloud Mountain Minnows, danios etc.; ``medium bodied'' might be red-tailed black sharks, tiger barbs, platys, cory cats etc.; ``heavy bodied'' would be goldfish, oscars etc.

The shop seems to focus on cory cats but they had a good assortment of unusual African cichlids, rainbow fish, killie fish and dwarf cichlids. Dwarfs are not there specialty but they usually have a few species.

Albino Palaetus and Aeneus cory catfish (Corydoras paleatus and C. aeneus) are being injected with dyes to produce colored spots on the top of the caudal peduncle between the dorsal and caudal (tail) fins.

The lowest ISO setting is probably the best to photograph your Cory Cat sitting still on a rock. The highest setting will be needed to catch, if your are lucky, a darting fish like a Rasbora.
