Damselfish belong to the Pomacentridae family. They are closely related to clownfish and are found throughout the world. They generally achieve a length of 2 to 3 inches.

Blue Damselfish
This fish is also known as the "Blue Devil Damsel" due to it's temperament. It's a good thing these fish stay on the small side at around 3 inches (6 cm). Use caution when stocking a tank with these little devils.

Distribution:
Atlantic - West; Tropical Atlantic. Abundant in the Caribbean, also found in good numbers on West African reefs.

Damselfish - these will be the last fish you'll want to introduce to your tank or you'll have a very hard time getting other fish into the tank once these guys set up shop.
Clownfish - keep just a pair per species for the best harmony in your tank.

Damselfish and angelfish are colourful and inexpensive....
....so a group of tanks was devoted to them.

All Damselfish can be considered reef-safe.

One word about Damselfishes. These are small, hardy but extremely aggressive fish.

In the aquarium Damselfish will defend a territory aggressively towards any fish that approach. This behavior is magnified in smaller tanks, making it nearly impossible to select appropriate tankmates.

The researchers also exposed damselfish to "extract of blenderized Caulerpa" (my words), and showed that certain extracts of it (terpenes, terpenoids, ...) were indeed quite lethal to the fish. Keep in mind that damselfish are in general rugged fish.

The Blue Devil Damsel is a popular, attractive damselfish. This damselfish is generally hardy and is often used in new aquariums or for beginner hobbyists. This damselfish is considered to be reef safe and is often used to add color to reef aquarium.

Some of the most popular, beautiful and fascinating tropical fish species are the colorful, exotic clown fish, damselfish and angelfish, normal size or dwarf. Coral, crustaceans and sea anemones will complete your tropical fish aquarium ecosystem.

Other fish in the community can include Clownfish, Damselfish, Gobies, Catfish, Firefish, Rabbitfish and Butterflyfish. Any fish large enough to eat them should definitely be avoided. These include Lionfish, Trigger's, Grouper's and Snapper's.

Some suggested species include: common goldfish (for cold water tanks), zebra danios and barbs for warmer tanks, and damselfishes in marine systems. Note: Do not use ``toughies'' or other feeder fishes.
