Dolomite A limestone gravel with a small pH buffering ability. Dormant period Interruption of growth in an effort to adjust to seasonal periods of stress.
Dolomite is a mineral containing both calcium and magnesium carbonate, CaMg(CO3)2. As it dissolves it will add both calcium and magnesium.

argl, in a 55 gallon aquarium with crushed coral@and dolomite substrate over an undergravel filter. Two coral columns rise from the bottom to almost the top of the tank, in an effort to simulate the natural spawning environment.
Stay away from coral gravels, dolomite gravels, aragonite, and live sands and seashells. These are best suited to specific setup ups, like brackish, marine or african cichlids.
For example, coral, sea shells, dolomite and limestone will release (leach) carbonates into the tank raising its pH buffering capacity (see the CHEMISTRY SECTION for details). When keeping African rift lake cichlids, this is desirable.
It is best to use a calcareous substrate such as crushed coral or dolomite. These substrates will, at least initially, help buffer the water by adding ions to the buffering system.
Examples include crushed coral, dolomite and argonite. Using these types of substrate tend to help buffer the water and produce a more stable environment. Next, you need to check all your equipment for anything metal.
Type of filter medium used (marbles, gravel, dolomite, oyster shells, charcoal, filter floss, etc.) D. How do you care for the filter 1. How long does the filter remain in the tank 2.
Marble, limestone, coral, dolomite, or anything similar will do just that. While it's possible to live with rocks that impact your water parameters (Amano scapes often use such stones) in the long run, it just isn't worth it.
soluble rocks, gravel, and sand (dolomite, limestone, coral rock, lace rock, tufa rock) Central American Fishes (Central American cichlids, livebearers, cave tetras, catfish, etc.) 7.0 to 8.0 ...
To harden the water, filter the water through dolomite or crushed coral until the desired hardness is reached. Electrical Conductivity: By running an electrical current through the water, the level of conductivity can be found.
