Automatic Dosing Pumps
In preparation for an upcoming vacation I've decided to automate the dosing in my tanks to eliminate the need for any pet-sitting services (from family or others).

Dosing Pump: A pump which serves to maintain a specific water level in an aquarium. They can also be used to add a constant supply of additives or trace elements, much like a hospital IV.

Dosing Pump: A device used to deliver small amounts of chemicals and trace elements into the aquarium water. It is recommended that kalkwasser be dosed in this manner.

dosing pump / doser
A pump with a very slow drip ideal for adding trace elements, other supplements, or replacing evaporated water.

Dosing pumps are used by hobbyists usually to control the input of buffering solutions. Before purchasing or using such a device make sure you understand how it works and know what you are doing.

dosing pump A pump which can supply a very slow drip which is used to add trace elements or make up water for evaporation. The most common type is a peristaltic pump. external filter Any filter not kept inside the aquarium, but connected with hoses.

All additives and all injection by dosing pumps was set to go directly into the sump. Electrodes were placed in the tank not in the sump. Electrodes were in areas with real good water circulation.

Given also the number of ingredients I'm using, both commercial and chemical, I decided to try a dosing pump not only to administer the fertilizers around the clock, ...

The Kalkwasser reactor is a DIY that mixes Kalkwasser (Calcium Hydroxide) which is dripped into the sump thru a dosing pump to replace all the evaporated water. All water used for top off as well as water changes is filtered water thru an R.O/D.

Such a system can require almost constant supplementation, as with a calcium reactor or kalkwasser dosing pump.
Regular “salt' is sodium chloride.

It is possible to automate delivery of the liquid compounds by having dosing pumps administer the dose gradually over the course of the day. This helps prevent shock to the tank's inhabitants, even though there is already little chance of shock.

Peristaltic Pump: A dosing pump which works by using rollers to squeeze flexible tubing.

Some benefits, though are: that no precipitate is put off in regulating calcium this way, they help regulate pH and calcium levels precisely, they can be used in different applications, they are cheaper than peristaltic dosing pumps, ...
