Aquarium DSBDuboisi Cichlid

Duboisi Cichlid
The Tropheus Duboisi Cichlid originates from the rocky coastal waters of Northern Lake Tanganyika, Africa. They are a beautiful species and are completely black as a juvenile with many white spots.

Breeding: Duboisi Cichlids are mouthbrooders. The female lays up to 20 eggs that are fertilized by the male. The female then takes the eggs in her mouth where she keeps them until the fry is a few days old.

Duboisi should be cared for in an fairy large aquarium. These fish like to live in large groups and thus need plenty of space. A lot of rockwork with many hiding spots provides the best habitat for these fish.

Tropheus duboisi, female.
After a week one died, but the rest adjusted to their new home just fine. They were fed a diet of spirulina flake twice daily. For the first year of their lives I would put a Romaine lettuce leaf in the tank every morning.

every species we tried to keep in this way ended up with problems and this includes Pseudotropheus demasoni, Maylandia callainos, Pseudotropheus saulosi, Labidochromis caeruleus "yellow", Maylandia lombardoi, Tropheus moorii Bemba, Tropheus duboisi ...

They are very beautiful and interesting to watch fish. These fish get about 6". Some of the most common Tropheus species are T. duboisi and T. moorii. There are several geographic variants of each species.

Since all the fish in the tank will be the same price, there's also no worry that an employee will mistake a $50 Tropheus duboisi for a $3 Pseudotropheus zebra. This technique also works for more community-minded species that have color morphs.
