Dwarf Gourami Species Profile
The dwarf gourami is a peaceful, timid species that should be kept in pairs with fish of similar size and temperament. Avoid housing this fish with some of the more active characins and barbs.

Dwarf gouramis are peaceful fish that do well in most community aquaria. They require a tank that is 40 liters (10 US gallons) or larger. They are usually found swimming on the middle to top regions of the aquarium.

Dwarf Gouramis require a tank that is 10 gallons or larger. The aquarium should be heavily planted and have at least part of the surface covered with floating plants.

The Dwarf Otocinclus, also known as the Midget Suckermouth Catfish or just Midget Suckermouth, is a great fish to have in any aquarium. The main reason for this is their ability to clean the surfaces of the aquarium of algae.

Sumbu "dwarf" is a relatively quiet, reclusive cichlid that requires caves, crevices or shells in which it makes its "home" and spawning den. It is most comfortable when kept with most other Tanganyikan cichlids.

This strongly individual little fish with the saddle-shaped dorsal fin has seemed to attained permanent popularity. It is not only beautiful, but is easily bred and is free of that aggressiveness which marks most Dwarf Cichlids.

Dwarf Gouramis
Dwarf Gouramis are a shy, slow moving yet beautiful fish. These small Dwarf Gouramis are territorial but non-aggressive. You'll find them living near the surface or the middle in the same spot in your aquarium most of the time.

Other Dwarf Cichlids you may see are the Ram - Papiliochromis (some books use Microgeophagus or Apistogramma) ramirezi, Apistos - Apistogramma species, ...

Another dwarf cichlid second only to Mikrogeophagus ramirezi (rams) in popularity. Its bigger final size (males may reach or exceed 8 cm) makes it more suitable for larger planted tanks (especially for those interested in cichlids).

As with all Dwarf Cichlids water quality is a must. Dwarfs are not like other Cichlids in the fact that they are highly intolerant of poor water conditions.

Description: Dwarf betta, dark grey to black body, fins greenisch. Ventral fins red with white tips.

This species of dwarf cichlid is quite easy to care for. P. pulcher will tolerate a range of water conditions well.

The Blue Ram is a dwarf cichlid from South America, although it is now captively bred in Europe and Asia. It is a mainly peaceful fish that thrives in well planted tanks with softer water.

Although this may seem only a temporary situation because males will eventually dwarf females its actually not.
The most aggression that will test the pair being in a 10 gallon(38 litre) is just the first few weeks.

In some parts of the country and during certain seasons you may find you have purchased an AquaBaby with a Dwarf African Clawed Frog, Hymenochirpus curtipes. The frog, like the fish, was born on a farm and should not be released into the wild.

Ophiopogon japonicus kyoto dwarf is as its name suggests a dwarf variety of japonicus. This compact plant is slow growing and tolerant of most conditions.

(not your clownfish) Dwarf angels, small tangs, blennies and small shrimp seem to be prone to getting eaten. Pseudochromis, hawkfish and some others don't seem to have a problem. The clownfish that accept this anemone also seem to be limited.

The pleco is a hardy fish that can thrive is many conditions, even bad conditions. Other than dwarf plecos (the common ones in fish shop is not dwarf type), plecos can outgrow a home aquarium.
