Eels are popular among marine aquarists. The snowflake moray is commonly kept in tropical saltwater aquariums and averages 2½ feet in length. Moray eels are hardy and adjust well to life in captivity.
The Tandanus Eel-tailed catfish is a carnivorous fish from Australia. The body and fins contain various shades of brown. The dorsal, anal and caudal fins all form together to make the "eel tail".

This eel likes to burrow under the gravel. Can be kept with barbs, large tetras, and not-so-aggressive cichlids. I have fed it blackworms, pellets, and frozen food. Interesting fish/eel to keep.

The white ribbon eel can be kept in the same reef aquarium as most reef fish but may eat small crustaceans.
Comment : I have had my Dinosaur Eel for about two months now. Generally a fairly gentle animal except when my Chinese Algae Eater agitates it. So far, I have only fed it freeze dried shrimp and bloodworms.
My 13" eel refuses mealworms at all times, but can eat a phenomenal amount of earthworms if given the chance. Live maggots are also enjoyed if you can stomach breeding them.
Congo Eel thrives in most African cichlid setups. They relish caves or similar area, where they will often spend most of the daytime in a half-in, half-out position that appears comical to the aquarist.

This eel, which isn't really an eel, is quite easy to pick out. The body will be light in color, usually tan, with a dark black or brown "tire track" like pattern. It looks just like it sounds.
Vinegar eel are reported to live ~4 days in aquariums. Micro worms soon drown.

Can get quite large at 24 inches (60 cm) and these eels (like most) are excellent escape artists! Seal any and all escape points. They are predatory and may eat small fish and inverts.

All of this confusion over mistaken identity stems from the fact that macrognathus oculeatus is typically known as the lesser spiny eel, rather than the peacock spiny eel, which is the name typically given to macrognathus siamensis.
The kuhli loach is an eel-shaped fish, elongated with slightly compressed sides, and very small fins. The dorsal fin starts behind the middle of the body, and the anal fin well behind this. The eyes are covered with a transparent skin.
An eel is long, but is also skinny, so using ¼ of it's body length as a measure is safe.

i sold the eel. that was around a month ago, now the femal is getting realy fat and she has a black spot beneath her scales. the black spot is right behind her belly. i was wondering if you could tell me if she was really pregnant or not.

I kept mine with a panther grouper, a volitans lion, and a powder-blue ribbon eel. You should have seen the action when I dropped the feeders in! So, kept with other carnivorous fish of roughly the same size, everyone got along fine.
