Elodea

Aquarium ElephantnoseElodea canadensis

Elodea a.k.a. Egeria a.k.a. Waterweed Along with hornwort and duckweed, probably among the most prolific of freshwater plants on the planet. Provided adequate lighting, getting anacharis established is not usually a chore.

Elodea is another one of those easy plants to grow. However, I would try to keep it in good bright light, if not the lower leaves of the plants will rot and fall off due to little light at the bottom of the tank.

Elodea is another easy and fast growing plant that is excellent for absorbing nitrates in aquariums.

Elodea canadensis, an oxygenating plant, and the parrot feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum).
A second greenhouse, of 1500 sq. ft. at the back of the property, is not open to retail customers. Here Jack and Jeanie store and propagate plants.

Native to North and South America, introduced to Europe.

Small pieces of elodea and hornwort can be left to float until they get big enough to include in a bunch.

Elodea/Egeria (anachris) Prefers low temperature (50-77F) tanks, somewhat alkaline pH. Translucent green whorled leaves. Good goldfish food and tank oxygenator. Can be kept free-floating or rooted. Nice beginner plant.

For fish with vegetarian leanings, adding a healthy bunch or two of "anacharis" (Elodea species) or "hornwort" (Ceratophyllum demersum ) is an all-natural solution that allows 24 hour grazing.

water hyacinth, Salivinia molesta, hornwort, and Elodea nuttallii) seem to grow better with ammonium or an ammonium/nitrate mixture than when they are forced to grow with pure nitrates [2].

The Hydrocharitaceae family, commonly known as Frogbit, to which this plant belongs is quite varied; it contains plants as diverse from each other as the subject species, Vallisneria, Egeria, Elodea and others.

Eggs should then be separated into another tank, as the parents will likely eat any of their young that they happen upon. Dense plants such as Cabomba or Elodea or a spawning mop are used to catch the eggs.
