I recently received a paper, written by some of my colleagues, who are trying to predict phytoplankton blooms in human-impacted estuarine areas, and I think their results can shed some light on our problems. The citation is: Roelke, D., L.

Scats are common inhabitants of estuarine waters of Malaysia but also occur as landlocked populations in fresh water far from the sea.

These fish as a group are native to estuarine environments where the waters are likely to be hard and alkaline at least, and may be brackish. Sodium chloride is matching their home, right? Well, maybe.

By far the most common occurrences of brackish water in nature are the estuarine areas where fresh water rivers meet the sea.

The Tetraodontidae is a family of primarily marine and estuarine fish. The family includes many familiar species which are variously called puffers, balloonfish, blowfish, bubblefish, globefish, swellfish, toadfish, and toadies.

Ages ago they got trapped while browsing for food in an estuarine area in what is the actual Amazon basin when the Andes rose (because of a terrific earthquake).

While those genera are the giants of the genus are found, often in estuarine conditions, at lengths of over a foot long (30cm), by contrast Pterobunocephalus don’t get bigger than 3.5' (9cm) and they are dainty with it.

The Albuquerque Aquarium exhibits Gulf of Mexico saltwater species from a variety of habitats, including estuarine, surf zone, shallow waters, coral reefs, open ocean and deep ocean.

Description
Monodactylus sebae is also known as African Moony. It comes from the estuarines and mangroves of West Africa. It has a significantly larger anal fin than that of the Monodactylus argenteus.
