Species Information
A brackish water fish, the "orange chromide" grows to a length of 4 inches. They spawn in shelters of seagrass so make sure you have plenty in your tank.

Common name
Origin: Coastal waters from India and Sri Lanka, only Etroplus species that occurs in pure freshwater.
Paretroplus maculatus is very closely linked to Paretroplus menarambo (the pin stripe damba). It is therefore possible to hybridize if given the chance.

The Orange Chromide is an artificial improvement on the wild Etroplus maculatus from India, which is pale colored with black stripes and spots (the only known Asian Cichlid).

SYN : Chaetodon maculatus, Etroplus coruchi
PD : A slightly elongated, oval-shaped fish. The body is yellow to bright orange in color with several rows of small red-orange spots that mark the body.
The Orange Chromide (Etroplus maculatus) and the larger Green Chromide (Etroplus suratensis) are available in the hobby, the former is readily available and makes a colorful and easily spawned addition to the large community tank.
