Easy, the Victorians were quite happy to bring alien species to this country for sport, the European wels catfish (Silurus glanis) being one, which was introduced from Scandinavia. One was recently caught in West Sussex measuring 5-foot long.
This month's featured catfish is the Tapah (as it is locally known in Indonesia and Malaysia and never confused with any other catfish), essentially a leaner, sleeker version of the European wels (Silurus glanis) with an equally fearsome reputation.
