Aquarium ExtantExternal filters

External filter with several filtration compartments.
Of these, the most significant are the nitrogenous products released by animals' liquid excretion. These substances are very toxic, and so their accumulation is a cause for concern.

External filters- work in a similar way but they pump water out of the aquarium and through the filter media before pumping it back in.

External filters: Pretty simple, a filter which is located outside of the tank.

External Filter: Any filter not kept inside the aquarium, but connected to it by hoses. Canister filters are an example of these.

External Filter: A filtration device which is kept outside of the aquarium.
Family: A scientific order of taxonomy which contains genera, or genus.
Fish: The purpose of life.

External Filter - Any filter that is located outside of the tank, e.g. HOB Filter, Canister Filter.
FO - Fish Only. Saltwater aquarium containing fish but not Live Rock or Reef animals.

External Filter A filtration device which is kept outside of the aquarium.

Finally, an external filter (Eheim) of generous (as related to the real water volume) flow/power has been chosen and a small (submersible) heater has been carefull hidden (at the expense of an accurate / rapid temperature response) among the rocks.

Under-Gravel and External Filters
Lighting
Fish require adequate amounts of light and dark, like most other creatures on the planet. Correct lighting is essential for the biological clocks and eating patterns of your fish.

Water return of a external filter on to the surface of the aquarium water column.
Bio-wheel which splashes the water on the surface and therefore forces aeration.

It is much easier and often cheaper to use a motor driven external filter for the primary filter devices.

Canister Filter - An external filter using hoses and a pump to cycle the water from the aquarium thru the canister filled with different types of filter media.
Carbon - See Activated Carbon above.
Carbon Dioxide - (CO2) Used by plants as a nutrient.

What I did at this point was to take the "box" of an old external filter, drill a hole through the bottom of it (actually, it already had a hole where the impeller fit into it), and glued a standpipe to it.

I keep them in a 49 gallon tank with an external filter with a capacity 1 and half times the size of the tank, this helps to keep toxic levels down. I have found a weekly water change of 20% keeps the nitrate levels at bay due to the fresh fish diet.

Tetra's "ClearChoice" external filter
External Filters are generally the largest of pond filters, and are located above ground (some may be partially buried) somewhere near the pond itself.

Although some recommend using underground filters, external filters and bio-wheels simultaneously to maintain quality, my experience is that underground filters are not suitable for mbunas.

You will need substrate, rockwork, driftwood (if you want), plants (if you want), one or more powerheads and/or an external filter, and lighting. The lighting you choose will depend in part on the method you use to create current in the tank.

Filter Heater: These heaters are placed into your external filter and heat water as it flows through the filter.

The most common filters are undergravel filters, external filters, or internal filters. Each of these has a media with a lot of surface area for the bacteria to live and grow on.

Standard kit includes:- 1 x Fluval Mirrored M series heater - 300 watt 1 x Fluval 405 External Filter with built-in media 2 x Fluval Glo T5 Lighting units 2 x Power Glo T5 High Output Bulbs - 39 watt 2 x Life Glo T5 High Output Bulbs - 39 watt After ...

There are many different types of filtration available for your tank however by far the best are external filters. Do not, ever, use an Underground Gravel FIlter in a planted tank.

While early developments feature the use of technology to purify the water with an assortment of external filter devices and fancy gadgets, other "natural" approaches rely mostly on biological filtration occurring within the aquarium.

EXTERNAL FILTERS Oftentimes, this is used to denote power filters. But this not always the case. (See POWER FILTERS) FOAM FRACTIONATION See PROTEIN SKIMMERS. INTERNAL FILTERS These filters are plastic cartridges that fit inside the aquarium.

There are various configurations of external filter systems. An important feature is that it should be able to mechanically, biologically and chemically filter water.

I recommend the use of Large external filters with biological filter media in it i.e. ehiem ehfi substrat. Ok so you break the ammonia and nitrite down to nitrates. You need an effective method for removing this from the water.

having an external filtering system, i have about an inch or more of opening right next to it. do I have to now worry about this? will the eel jump out of it? any suggestions about how to fix this issue?
qucksilver says: ...

Protein Skimmer: An external filtering device that uses air bubbles to remove nitrogen rich proteins, fatty acids, and other organic wastes. This is a required piece of equipment for maintaining good water quality in a marine aquarium.
Q ...

I am a big proponent of biowheel media, which are external filters that hang off of your tank and remove large particulate while running the water over a wheel which contains the bacterial colony before returning the water to your tank.

The AquaClear line consists of hang-on-back (HOB) filters in different sizes that simply hang over the edge of the aquarium, eliminating the need for hoses and space beneath the aquarium to house an external filter.

Sponge Filter - A sponge which fits inside either an internal or external filter which is able to do both mechanical and biological filtration. Click here to read our filtration.
SPS - Small Polyped Stony.

Increasing the buffer
will also increase the pH.

Canister Filter - An external filter using hoses and a pump to cycle the water from the
aquarium thru the canister filled with different types of filter media.

Filtration and pump size is something you will have to discuss with one of the pond pros at Beverly's, because there are many options available to you. I recommend that you use an external filter so it does not detract from the beauty of your pond.

Live rock is important from a biological filter perspective and if you're using live rock you don't have to use an external filter on the tank. Let the protein skimmer remove the dissolved wastes.

Or you could go the other way, it is interesting that if kept without any hideaways at all (including an external filter and under tank heating) Synodontis don't appear to bother about each others company or the need for privacy.

Corner filters, box filters or internal power filters are the main contenders (sponge and under gravel filters are usually just referred to as sponge or undergravel filters). Internal filters offer less surface area than external filters so are ...

You control the accumulation of nitrogen when you perform a water change. Phosphates may be controlled by using phosphate-removal media in an external filter or by using reverse osmosis water for the aquarium.
