Distribution: The Featherfin Knifefish, also called the Bronze Featherback or Asiatic Knifefish, was described by Pallas in 1769. The are found in southern India, Myanmar and in most coastal river basins of Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Java.

Notopterus chitala, commonly known as the Clown Knifefish or Featherback, is a large predator from Southeast Asia. Their bodies are elongated in the shape of a blade, which explains the name of "Knifefish".
