Firemouth cichlids (Thorichthys meeki) are native to Central America. They occur in rivers of the Yucatán peninsula, Mexico, south through Belize and into northern Guatemala.

Firemouth cichlids are beautiful fish. It was the fist ciclid I ever had and I still have it. Every now and then they will fight with others for food or a cave that's all. They do great with South American cichlids convicts oscars jack dempseys etc.

When gill flaring, the cheek stripe shrinks to a dark patch on the outer edge of the operula, like that seen on Thorichthys meeki (Firemouth Cichlid). This gives the the illusion of being a giant head with a large eye.

This fish has the same shaped body as a Firemouth Cichlid. Its colors are beautiful. The body will be blue or blue-gray. The fins will be rainbow colored, mixing blues, purples, oranges, and reds.
