Flukes are parasites that attach to the bodies of fish, especially the gills. Although flukes can cloud the skin color, the parasites do not usually produce a visually noticeable effect.

 


Flukes are hard to treat and complete eradication is virtually impossible. For individuals affected with flukes, consecutive salt baths over 2-3 days can be useful.

Flukes
DISEASE FLUKES - external and internal "worm" parasites belonging to the classes Trematoda and Cestoda species in the family Dactylogyridae parasitise the gills and digestive tract. The family Gyrodactylidae parasitise the body and finnage.

Flukes are often too small to be seen with the naked eye. Cloudy or irregular areas on the skin, focal hemorrhages, hyperplasia, eroded fins and excess mucus production are symptoms with species that attack the skin.

Digenetic Flukes (Metacercaria)
Typically seen in newly imported fish and in two forms. Black spot is caught from snails that release the Cercaria. Larval forms penetrate the skin and encyst in the tissue and may be seen as red or black nodules.
