Fungal Infections
A fungal infection appears as a white cotton growth on the body or fins of the fish. The majority of white spots you see on your fish are going to be parasites.
Fish Fungal Infections Grey or white thread like growths may be seen on the fish body and will need treating with medication.
White Spot is seen literally on the fish as small white spots, mainly on fins, but it can be on the body as well.

Fungal Infections
Fungal infections are diagnosed by examining a laboratory sample under a microscope, or by culturing the organism. Fungal infections can be extremely difficult to treat in fish.
1) No fungal infection around the mouth, no erosion.
2) No "Pop-eye" (no bulging) eyes are clear.
3) Scales are in good condition; scales are flat aqainst the body.
4) No signs of erosion; fins are not clamped against the body.

We left out fungal infections up to this point. Fungal infections are almost always a secondary infection. This means they come about on a fish where there is already a wound or a lesion from a bacterial infection.
Bacterial and Fungal Infections
The most common health problem among aquarium fish is infection from bacteria and fungus. The primary culprit is usually bad water quality.
But I had this 10 gal tank I bougt really cheap and for some strange reasons the killies I was raising in this tank kept getting weird fungal infections and dying.
They are very susceptible to fungal infections of the body and fins, and parasitic copepods, both of which may result in the loss of scales.
I will refer to fungal infections here inclusively, because despite the many possible fungal infections at large, from the diagnosis and treatment point of view there are so many similarities that many can be treated even if regarded collectively.
This is considered to be a simple and natural remedy for wounds, minor fungal infections and film over the eyes of fish in transit. Using a marine salt (used for salt water fish) will add some trace elements.
For the treatment of Whitespot, Costia and other Fungal infections in seawater aquaria only. Do not use in aquaria containing invertebrates, macro algae, Sharks, Rays, or Harlequin Tuskfish.
Be sure to keep an adequate amount of salt in the water so the eggs or the fry are not to suffer from fungal infections. The fry are slow-growing and very sensitive to changes in water conditions. Parental care may continue for up to four months.

There are many ideas about why this happens (including osmotic or pH shock, bacterial and fungal infections, etc.), but unfortunately no one really knows what the ultimate cause of this problem is.

Salt is a good general medication because it fights types of parasitic, bacterial and fungal infections. The downside is that not all fish can deal with salt. Salt dips and baths have to be stronger since they are quick also.

But, like other animals, marine species can have bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, as well as parasites. Learn about the normal body functions of marine fish, invertebrates, and coral, as well as the diseases that can affect them.
The breeding aquarium for the rummy nosed tetra, in addition, needs to be sterilised prior to use, as the fish produces eggs that are notoriously sensitive to bacterial and fungal infection.
Individuals can be treated initially with antibiotics like enrofloxacin (5-10 mg/kg), oxytetracycline (50 mg/kg), or chloramphenicol (50 mg/kg). If fungal infection is suspected, a 0.01% itraconazole bath (5 min daily for 8 days) may be effective.
The problem with treating this disease is that there are a number of "potential" causes: bacterial infection, parasites, cancerous tumors, virus', internal fungal infections or sudden temperature drop of more than 3 degrees.
If it gets injured, pay special attention to the fish, as these wounds can easily become infected. The spiny eel is susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections.

Haven't seen peppermint shrimp in a while. May have all been eaten. Strombus snail eggs seem to be dying before hatching. Turn fuzzy white (bacterial or fungal infection likely).
(soft, acidic water) and like many of their larger cousins, it is a very shy and retiring fish, and plenty of hiding places should be offered. However, they are particular about water parameters and seem particularly susceptible to fungal infections.
