Giant Gourami build nests using weeds and twigs. Female Giant Gourami can be identified by their thicker lips. The Giant Gourami is native to parts of Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia, but has been introduced elsewhere for the purpose of aquaculture.

The giant gourami is one of the few gouramis that actually get big. Their colors vary but are usually a uniform grey-brown. Their attractive colors fade as they mature.

Giant Gourami
The Giant Gourami, also known as Banded Gourami, Rainbow Gourami, or Striped Gourami, is a pale to golden yellow with silvery pale blue stripes running vertically along its body.

Giant gouramis are native to India and are used for food as well as pond fish. In a pond they are said to have individual characters, and can be trained to be hand fed.

PD : A large, laterally compressed fish with an oval-shaped body.

He's living with 2 marble angels, 2 redtail giant gourami, 1 large pleco, and 1 spotted raphael. They get along extremely well for some reason, like a big happy family. But my silver has a a lot of golden color to it.

One only needs to look in shops or public aquariums to see how many pacu, Red Tailed Catfish, Giant Gouramis, triggerfish, eels, and yes, even sharks have been donated because they have outgrown their original owners' aquaria.

Do not buy Chocolate Gouramies - Sphaerichthys osphromenoides which are quite delicate, or the true Giant Gouramies - Osphronemus spp. which grow quickly to well over two feet long.

Can grow to 24 inches in the wild and is considered a food fish. In the aquarium its growth is usually kept at 3 to 5 inches in length.

This species was described relatively recently, in the 1990's, and has previously been rare in the aquarium trade.

The True Giant Gourami is a fish that is rarely offered for sale. They get huge, and should not be kept in small aquaria.
