The golden barb (Puntius gelius), golden dwarf barb, or glass barb is a subtropical freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprininae sub-family of the Cyprinidae family.

This easy to care for barb is another fish that is ideal for beginners. This fish has been popular in the hobby for many years.
I should tell you I had a 38 gallon tank, with four angels, and a variety of about 20 other fish, mostly small tetras and Chinese golden barbs. As they defended their space, the fish had begun to clean a broadleaved plant in the area.
For years now, I have seen this pretty little golden barb with its black-green markings always active looking for food in dealers' tanks. Full grown, they reach 2-1/2 inches, a size I have never seen.
They are peaceful and get along with my 3 golden barbs, neon black tetra and a blue gourami. I highly encourage a fish keeper to experience the joy of these fish.
I have a small group of these (8) in a 200 litre tank with tiger barbs, golden Barbs and Zebra danios.. Work just fine as all my other fish are hardy fish with no trailing fins.
I must say that I do see chasing each other as I'm writing this. they are nose to nose fighting. But so far not one other fish has been nipped. I have 7 tiger barbs, 2 dwarf gourami,4 golden barbs,
2 Clown barbs, and 1 swordtail platy.
