I have 2 snakeskins, with 2 golden gouramis in a mixed 200 L tank including pictus catfish, red kribs, hatchets, plecs and a red tailed shark, and they are one of my favorites but also very timid.
A "golden" cultivar, often sold as simply "golden gourami" The best way to differentiate between the male and female Three spot gourami is by the dorsal fin. In the male, the dorsal fin is long and pointed, while the female's is shorter and rounded.
I'm thinking about adding somthing like 2 golden gouramis, 1 snakeskin gourami, 1 baby pleco, 1 red tailed shark, 4 baby keyhole cichlids, 6 cherry barbs, 8 serpae tetras, and I would like to add a baby severum too, but we'll see.
My golden gourami and paradise males were both good parents, but the dwarf was appeared to be ready to consume the fry as much as protect them. The paradise fish was good about collecting the newly hatched fry and spitting them back into the nest.
I had two that lived quite happily with two golden Gourami's, four serpae tetras and one betta. (The betta was not such a good idea...we kept an eye on the tank for about five hours with no problem.
