Gray Bichir - Polypterus senegalus senegalus Species name: Polypterus senegalus senegalus Synonym: Polypterus bichir; Polypterus senegallus; Polypterus lapradei; Polypterus arnaudi; Polypterus senegalensis; Polypterus delhezi ...
The gray bichir, Polypterus senegalus, also known as the Senegal bichir and Cuvier's bichir, is sometimes called the dinosaur eel - a misnomer, as the creature is not an eel.
The Cuvier Bichir, also called the Senegal Bichir, Gray Bichir, or Dragonfin, is a member of the Polypteridae, or Lobe-Finned Pike family. This species is farm raised, but is endemic to the streams and rivers of Africa.
I have a small one sharing a tank with a Gray Bichir, Rainbow Snakehead, African Knife and some Synos. Never had any problems with this fish at all and it is very easy to feed. My Rope likes eating frozen bloodworm and some chopped up prawn.
