Green Terror - Aequidens Rivulatus
By Shayne
Common Name: Green Terror ...

Green Terrors are beautiful fish. They are to me, the second most owner responsive fish, other than the Oscar. Green Terrors are afraid of nothing, know how to hide from danger and are not overly aggressive. Mine eats from my hand just like my Oscar.

Blue Green Algae (BGA)
Causes: Low nitrate levels (NO3), "dead spots" of low water circulation, organic waste build-up
Prevention: Dose nitrates (NO3), add powerheads to aid circulation, frequent water changes and do not over-feed ...

Green aquarium water is caused by free-floating single celled green algae. With the correct conditions single cell green algae is very prolific.

Green Terrors are a very nice colourful fish from South America and are quite often confused with the blue acara. Unlike the blue acara the green terror is a more aggressive fish that need be handled with care as far as other tank mates are concerned.

[edit] About Blue Green Algae
BGA in front of glass
BGA is short for Blue Green Algae. Also known as Slime or Smear Algae. It can be seen in the typical blue-green colour but will also occur in brown.

Why Is the Betta Water Green?
Fur Coat Syndrome and Betta Care
'Fur Coat Syndrome' is a dermal bacterial infection (though most fishkeepers would consider it a fungus because it looks fuzzy).

Sex differences: Males obtain an bright metallic green area on the head that is very unusual among peacocks and gives A. saulosi the common name "Green Face".

Green Terror, Rivulatus
"Aequidens" rivulatus
SYN: Acara aequinoctialis, A. rivulata, Chromis rivulatus
PD: An oval-shaped cichlid with a rounded caudal fin. Older males develop a large lump on the forehead.

Green water
Green unicellular algae will sometimes reproduce so rapidly that the water will turn green. This is commonly called an "algae bloom" and is usually caused by too much light like direct sunlight.

Green Hygro - Hygrophila polysperma - perhaps the most adaptable of aquarium plants, "Hygro" has light green leaves shaped somewhat like old airplane propellers arranged in pairs along a long vertical stem.

Green Spot Algae
Probably the most common algae. Appears as little green spots everywhere: glass, rocks, fish substrate, filters, everywhere. I have found that it occurs where any direct light hits. Also occurs on slow growing plants.

Green Spot Algae - appears as little green spots mainly on the glass. A very common type of algae which magnet algae cleaners struggle to contend with.

Green algae (Chlorophyceae)
It is generally considered that their appearance in small, sparse clumps is a good sign (especially in alkaline water) that may indicate that the aquarium is well-equipped.

Greenwater: Caused almost invariably by too much light. The name aptly describes its appearance - tank takes on the "pea soup" look. Filtering with micron cartridges or diatom filters will successfully remove these algal blooms.

Green Water - Free floating single celled green algae that thrive under high lighting and nitrates. Reduce nitrate levels and lighting. Increase oxygen levels. Don't bother with water changes, as these can actual enhance algal blooms.

Greenhouse Effect: Carbon dioxide traps solar-derived heat in the atmosphere near the earth.
Gregarious Settling: Settlement of larvae that have been attracted to members of their own species.
Groove: A long narrow channel.

Green Water System
A system in which fish are reared with phytoplankton and zooplankton.

Blue-green, slime or smear algae
Grows rapidly in blue-green, slimy sheets. Spreads rapidly over almost everything and usually indicates poor water quality.

Green Arowana 'Ching Long'

If green algae in your tank start to die off, make sure you siphon them out or they will add more PO4 to the water causing other algae to grow.

Known as the Green Rivulus or Cuban Rivulus.
One of the most satisfactory of the Rivulus. It is hardy, active, peaceful and prolific. Although not one of the biggest of this group, it is one of the "jumpingest," easily clearing a 10" barrier.

Alternanthera green
This is probably a variety of Alternanthera versicolor. The green variety is a fairly tough plant but never the less not an easy plant to grow well in an aquarium.

well, I have a green terror and an african cichlid- they seem to be fine together so far. Any chance they might mate??

People recommend green water as the best food for daphnia. I would have to say that I mainly agree with this, but I think that bacteria are just as nutritious. I haven't bothered feeding green water to daphnia since 1998 so draw your own conclusions.

BLUE-GREEN algae. This is usually the first to arrive, as at seems to enjoy taking advantage of the typical chaos of a not so stable, newly set-up aquarium. It has blue-green color, slimy texture and onion like odor.

Acropora elseyi This coral glows green under actinic lights. The parent colony (pictured on page 66 of The Reef Aquarium by Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung) is in an outdoor tank maintained by Bruce Carlson at the Waikiki Aquarium.

While the vegetables for breakfast are obtained from greenhouses, olive is grown by the family members personally. A nice breakfast that is organic as much as possible is waiting for you in the mornings.
