The Green swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii) is a species of freshwater fish in family Poecilidae of order Cyprinodontiformes. It is also called Red swordtail.

Green Swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri). The males have the swordtails but you won't want to keep more than one male in a tank together; they don't like other Swordtail male company.

I have sold over 500 green swordtails, 200 white cloud mountain minnows, and tons of JAVA FERN. I too have run into the trouble of getting what I would like for my products.

Xiphophorus hellerii, the green swordtail, is the type species of this genus that includes 28 species native to areas of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and (primarily) Mexico. Most aquarium fish have been developed from three species, X.

The Green Swordtail has a green body with red and yellow along the lateral line of the sides.

There are many species of Swordtails including the Lyretail swordtail, and the Green Swordtail. Also known as Swords, these livebearing fish are a peaceful community fish.

Coloration: Because of the vast array of colors we see today in the hobby, I will outline the coloration of the Original wild Green Swordtail. The upper-side is Olive-green with the sides being Yellow-Green highlighted by Brown edges.

The Painted Swordtail comes from the Green Swordtail, which was originally from Central America. The Green Swordtail was brought to Europe, where many varieties were produced, including the Painted Swordtail.
Common Foods ...

These fish will readily breed with the more common Green Swordtail, Xiphophorus helleri. It is very important not to keep the two together, otherwise you may end up with hybrids. These fish have been domesticated into the hobby for a long time now.

The wild Montezuma most resembles what is sold today as the green swordtail. However, the wild fish is larger, and in addition to the green body color it has a number of black spots - most evident on the male.
