The ever-popular guppy is generally a hardy fish which will tolerate a wide range of conditions. However, many fish found for sale these days are not as hardy as they once were.

Anyone who is currently in the guppy hobby knows just how utterly untrue this comment is, and in this article we want to cover a few aspects of the hobby so that beginners are well warned of some of the pitfalls and the pleasures.

Many clubs breed what they believe are exxcellent specimens are then hold guppy shows to display them. Feed the fish a basic diet of flake food.

The guppy is the ideal beginners fish, although in my experience it does not seem to be quite as hardy as it used to be, possibly through excessive inbreeding.

Under mosquito control program by a government agency, they foolishly introduced the guppy (Poecilia reticulata) into the area (like the Betta is not enough for that).

So, decide whether you want to keep Gold fish, Oscar fish, Cichlid fish, Angel Fish, Arowana fish, Betta Fish, Discus fish, Guppy fish or other "fish"........................ .........................etc.

Although suggested that we not keep it in our guppy tank, at the time there was no option. He gets along well with the guppies. There has been no noticable decline in the guppy population. He's been in the tank for months now.

It is unlikely that they are a geographical variant of the original wild guppy. F1 hybrids between the fish can be formed occasionally but they form an infertile hybrid, not the same species at all.

Often confused with the more common Guppy, these fish have very similar shaped bodies. Many people also confuse them with Minnow like fish. The body will be dark brown or gray and will have a lighter colored underbelly.

Like the Koi and Goldfish, the Guppy is a show fish. They come in a variety of colors, from red to blue to black. Wild guppies will have a brownish gray appearance. At maturity, Guppies will reach a size of one to two and a half inches.

The male members of the Fantail Guppy species have attractive, colorful tails. Guppies are very hardy and easy to feed.
