Gymnogeophagus balzanii
SYN : Geophagus balzanii
PD : An oval shaped fish with a tiny mouth. Males develop an enormous hump on their forehead that extends from the front of the base of the dorsal fin, to the lips.

 


You're fish is Gymnogeophagus balzanii, a distinctive and beautiful South American cichlid. Males will get up to 6" or so and females stay an inch or two smaller. Males are also distiguished by a large nuchal hump when they are mature.

larger species may uproot or tear apart live plants. This is not true for all large Geophagines, however, and sturdy, well rooted, potted plants are compatible with species of Geophagus, Satanoperca, and Biotodoma, and with Gymnogeophagus balzanii.
