As a juvenile it has a striped yellow and black 'bumblebee' patterning, so today its commonly called the Bumblebee Mouthbrooder, but is also known as the Hornet Cichlid.

I really didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest with my comments. There are two reasons I keep the cichlids I do, sentiment and opportunity. The sentimental side is what drew me to the Kribs and Rams.
The Bumblebee Cichlid, also known as the Hornet Cichlid, or Chameleon Cichlid comes from deepwater caves in Lake Malawi, Africa.
It is also known as hornet cichlid. It is endemic to many regions of Lake Malawi and is found in different habitats but most frequently in large caves. This species prefers a pH range of 7.5-8.2 and a temperature range of 24-26°C.
