As a juvenile it has a striped yellow and black 'bumblebee' patterning, so today its commonly called the Bumblebee Mouthbrooder, but is also known as the Hornet Cichlid.

The Bumblebee Cichlid, also known as the Hornet Cichlid, or Chameleon Cichlid comes from deepwater caves in Lake Malawi, Africa.
It is also known as hornet cichlid. It is endemic to many regions of Lake Malawi and is found in different habitats but most frequently in large caves. This species prefers a pH range of 7.5-8.2 and a temperature range of 24-26°C.
I have my hornet cichlid in an 800 L tank with a jaguar and (until recently) a red terror, with 2 pacu's and various catfish. He, like the other 2, are very aggressive but concentrate more on my 2 large pacus than on each other.
