Jaguar cats need plenty of hiding places which can be provided with driftwood and large rocks. These fish are nocturnal and hide during the day, coming out at night to feed. A slightly acidic pH is necessary.

The Jaguar Cat is typically nocturnal, hiding by day and actively feeding by night. You can observe the activity and feeding strategies of this fish by substituting red lights for fluorescent bulbs.

A representative of the predatory subgenus Nandopsis, the jaguar cichlid is the most commonly available of the giant guapotes.

They can be large community fish, mine is in with (all young) 2 green Severum, an Oscar and a Jaguar cichlid. They need a BIG tank though, at least 6'x2' for the South American species and 4'x2' for the others. Still the coolest fish around...

One moment of carelessness may mean the end of your life, even more in the wild, where piranha's are part of the diet of many predators, like jaguars, caimans, boto's (freshwater dolphins) and other, larger predatory fish, ...

Therefore, devoting a tank to the small "jaguars" was out of the question. The next best thing is of course floating nests. We added four of them in a tank housing Cichlasoma pearsei and added some styrofoam which would keep them in place.

The Managua Cichlid, also known as the Aztec Cichlid and the Jaguar Cichlid, is a beautifully marked cichlid. Young Managua Cichlids are dull silver/gold with spots running along their bodies. As they mature, they become duller.

It is a food fish and is also found in the aquarium trade where it is variously known as: the jaguar cichlid, managuense cichlid or managua cichlid, guapote tigre, Aztec cichlid, spotted guapote and jaguar guapote. It grows to 55-63 cm (22-25 in).

As juveniles feed with crushed flakes or a quality fry crumble. As the Jaguar grows, feed with small fish, worms, shrimp, tadpoles, crickets and a quality cichlid pellet. Hiding places are needed. Plants should not be added.

For all their bluster and performance, Oscars are not considered a highly aggressive species of cichlid and therefore are incompatible with more aggressive fish such a Red Devils, Midas, Jaguars and Dovii.

Can hold its own against larger Cichlids but dont put it with Jaguars, Convicts or other extremly agressive fish. Small Jack Dempseys or Green Terrors (2-6in.) will be OK for a while. Males dont seem to like each other. Great fish.
