Managuense, Jaguar Cichlid, Managua Cichlid [picture]
"Cichlasoma" (Nandopsis) managuense
SYN: Heros managuense
PD: An elongated cichlid with an up-turned mouth.

A representative of the predatory subgenus Nandopsis, the jaguar cichlid is the most commonly available of the giant guapotes.

They can be large community fish, mine is in with (all young) 2 green Severum, an Oscar and a Jaguar cichlid. They need a BIG tank though, at least 6'x2' for the South American species and 4'x2' for the others. Still the coolest fish around...

The Managua Cichlid, also known as the Aztec Cichlid and the Jaguar Cichlid, is a beautifully marked cichlid. Young Managua Cichlids are dull silver/gold with spots running along their bodies. As they mature, they become duller.

This species is often confused with the more common Jaguar Cichlid and will have similar color and pattern. However similar they are, this species is more docile towards tank mates, yet territorial.

I know that the tank is rather small for these fish but the initial plan was to house three - four Nandopsis salvini and not the Jaguar cichlids.

Many other large fish were on display, especially large South American cichlids such as jaguar cichlids, tilapia, Jack Dempseys, green terrors, red devils, a variety of oscars, and the newly popular hybrid flowerhorn cichlid.
