Why do fish jump out? Without delving too far into fish psychology, it's safe to say that some fish have learned to take to the air to avoid predators, and others have learned to slither across land to other bodies of water.

 


Jumper - Said of a species or specimen that tends to jump out of the aquarium.
K - Kelvin - Temperature scale used to designate light intensity. For freshwater 6400K-10000K is optimum. For marine 6400K - 20000K is optimum.

Swordtails are jumpers, so be sure to provide an adequate cover over the aquarium. Swordtails require a tank of at least 30 gallons that is well-planted with plenty of room for swimming.

Bettas are known jumpers and their tanks must be covered. They do not breathe air from the water, but rather they take it in from the air. They must not be covered with anything that will prevent oxygen from reaching the surface environment.

The fish is a good jumper. The lid of the tank should be properly closed leaving no large hole for the fish to jump out of the tank.

Be careful of jumpers - hatchetfish are an example - you need a tightly covered tank with these.

However, Bettas are jumpers also, and you need to be careful and cover the tops of containers with screen or netting so that he won't jump to his death on the countertop.

Usea tight-fitting cover for these fish are excellent jumpers. Allow the growth of algae, for it serves to calmand comfort this nervous fish.The filter should create a slight current and a large open swimming area should be leftopen.

Some eels are great jumpers and most of them are excellent escape artists, getting through any available hole in the aquarium cover. Being both jumpers and able to breathe air, Swamp Eels have been known to cross great distances of land.

Some species of top dwelling fish, such as Hatchetfish and Betta, are strong jumpers. If your tank contains jumpers, replace the lid immediately after feeding and maintenance.

The first and most important thing to remember about these fish is that they are world class jumpers, and unless the tank is covered tightly they will end up on the floor.

All Sharks are jumpers, accomplished jumpers. You must make sure your tank is completely covered they will jump out.
They are quick growers and may have to be separated if they get too big.
Sharks can become quite large.

Care: The climbing perch should be kept in larger tanks, that are well covered(accurate jumper)and with good filtration since the fish pollute a lot. Planted regions with hardy plants like javafern or vallisneria, and some floating plants.

Xanthos' grandmother, as you may remember, or after reviewing the first part of this article, was an Hannoverian jumper. Although Xanthos hasn't inherited the jumping skills of his grand mother, he has inherited these very genes to Perseus.

The McCosker's Flasher Wrasse requires a 30 gallon aquarium (or larger) with a tight-fitting lid since it is a jumper.

They are excellent jumpers; it has been reported that Osteoglossum species have been seen leaping more than 6 feet (almost 2 metres) from the water surface to pick off insects from overhanging branches in South America, ...

Its reputation as a great jumper also means that a sturdy cover is necessary. Neither is feeding particularly easy (or cheap), given that it very much prefers live food.

Bettas are excellent jumpers and will "leap" at the tiniest opportunity. I personally use saran wrap to cover the entire top of the bowl and secure it with colorful yarn.

Finally, many fish are good jumpers and although they are good at leaping out, none seem to have worked out how to leap back in!
Lids are usually made of wood, metal or glass.

This species is an excellent jumper so a secure top is necessary. The bottom decoration is of less importance since this fish dwells in the upper water regions. A few larger floating plants are appreciated.

Known for being a jumper when startled or frightened, the tank should have a tight-fitting lid.

A tight-fitting lid is required as this fish is a strong jumper and is capable of breathing outside of the aquarium, it may just decide to see what's on the other side. The water should be neutral with a typical tropical temperature.

Keep in mind that some of these top-level species are strong jumpers. Hatchet fish are known for being able to leap several feet out of the water.

Housing: Should have hiding spots on bottom. These fish are jumpers and must have a tight cover.
Feeding: Feed standard foods with frozen bloodworms, live worms, and brine shrimp. They enjoy live guppies at night.

The use of a tight-fitting or weighed down cover is necessary since this fish is a well-known jumper. Good tankmates for this species include corydoras, small loricarids, other like-size tetras, and hatchetfish.

Clown loaches are excellent jumpers, and you should make sure that your tank is properly sealed.

Hatchetfish need a tank with swimming room and like a strong current. The tank must be covered as they are excellent jumpers. Most will tolerate pH around neutral and moderate hardness, but the water must be well-oxygenated.

Other Info= This fish is a schooling fish, it is a rapid and expert swimmer. They should be kept in light and well covered tanks, as they are very good jumpers. This is a personal favourite of mine, even though I do not keep it.

It is one of the only sharks that should not be kept in a planted aquarium, because plants make up a large part of its diet. A hood on the aquarium is also recommended, as the Black Shark is an accomplished jumper.
