The native killifishes are covered in chapter 14. Members of the American Killifish Association trade many of these colorful fishes through the mails.

Throughout the world there are concerned aquarists in the ranks of specialty organizations involved with livebearers, killifishes, cichlids, rainbowfishes, etc.

Summary: African cichlids, rainbowfishes and killifishes in particular can often be hybridised, either deliberately or accidently. This is a "crime against the species" and should not be done, especially with rare or endangered species.

One of the easiest to keep Killifishes, well suitable for the community aquarium, breeding is simple as well. Young fish can be found regularly in the trade.
