Kryptopterus bicirrhis

The glass catfish or ghost fish, Kryptopterus bicirrhis, is a transparent freshwater aquarium fish. Body lengths can range up to 15 cm (6 in), but are usually less in aquarium specimens.

The glass catfish, Kryptopterus bicirrhis, is an elegant fish in its natural state and should be kept that way. Their muscle tissue and skin is transparent, so that you can clearly see their bones and organs.

PD: Its body is elongated and laterally compressed. This species is scaleless and lacks body pigment, thus making the body transparent.

Another catfish to avoid is the Glass Catfish - Kryptopterus bicirrhis. While it stays small enough to be an aquarium fish (up to 6"), it is very delicate and should not be purchased by beginners.

They sell what is called Painted Glass Fish (Kryptopterus bicirrhis) which is basically a transparent fish that is injected with colored dye. It is a cruel thing to do to the fish, and makes them very prone to disease.

You can add a touch of originality by introducing some transparent species: the glass perch (Chanda ranga) or the glass Silurid (Kryptopterus bicirrhis).

This very unique and interesting catfish is often seen under the incorrect species name of Kryptopterus bicirrhis, a very similar species that grows about three times as large but otherwise has similar requirements; that species is rare in the hobby.

It appears that the glass catfish has been misidentified for a long time now as Kryptopterus bicirrhis, this fish grows much larger (up to 10") and has more rays in its anal fin. It is quite possible that, at some point in the last 30 years or so, K.
