Kuhli Loach
The kuhli loach ("coolie" is an often seen mistake) is a fascinating and hardy species that fits well into a small fish community aquarium.

Kuhli Loaches are loners that are most active at night with the lights out. The tank should be decorated with thick bunches of plants and various rocky caves. Light levels should be low, which can be achieved through the use of floating plants.

Kuhli Loaches normally reach lengths around three and a half inches (nine centimeters). Their bodies are elongate, and they appear more like the bodies of eels in shape. The body of a Kuhli Loach becomes laterally flattened as it approaches the tail.

Kuhli loaches are one of the aquarium favorites. They resemble small, banded worms. They are often called cute by some and disgusting by others. Usually seen at small size, kuhlis are capable of reaching larger sizes.

Kuhli loaches are a peaceful and in-expensive addition to most community tanks. This fish likes to burrow, so provide fine sand or a peat bottom. Nocturnal; feed sinking tablets or live foods at dusk.

They were placed in a 20-gallon tank with some Kuhli Loaches, Rainbows, and Corys. The bottom was sand with planted Vallisneria and floating Hornwort.

The most commonly seen loaches are the Kuhli Loaches - Acanthophthalmus species. These are long, ribbon-like fishes which grow to be 4" long. Brown with yellow stripes and bands, Kuhli Loaches are shy and spend a lot of time buried in the gravel.

It has one lamprologus brichardi, 4 neolamprlogus brevis, 2 small cory cats, 1 bumblebee goby, and 1 kuhli loach. Substrate is sand in this one, unlike the gravel in the other two tanks.

This fish strongly resembles it's close cousin the Kuhli Loach, color will be similar. These are small loaches and should be kept with gentle fish in a community environment. They should be kept in groups of 3 or more.

Some suitable tank mates can include as moons, mollies, neons, cardinals, other small tetras, guppies, pencilfish, dwarf gouramis, white clouds, kuhli loaches, harlequin rasboras, corydoras catfish, oticinclus catfish.

In a 200L aquarium, you might try the following:
8 harlequin rasboras
8 zebra danios
3 zebra loaches
6 kuhli loaches
2 pearl gouramis
Of course there are many different combos you could use, that is just an example.

The most popular Botia, the Clown Loach, is definitely not a good starter fish, nor is the Kuhli Loach. Some Botias, such as the Rainbow (Blue) Botia, can become very aggressive and should be watched closely.
