PD: The Flag Cichlid is oval-shaped with a rounded caudal fin. The body color ranges greatly depending on the population. Generally the back and head are olive gray.

Now, cichlidiots reading this article will be quickly to point out that Laetacara curviceps is also known as Aequidens curviceps and Mesonauta festiva is also known as Cichlasoma festivum. Aren't these names supposed to be unique? You bet they are.

The distinctiveness of the spot on the topfin may also cause some confusion with laetacara curviceps, though the spot in the dorsigera is more distinct and better edged with blue or white.
