Size: Adults are usually 3.0 to 5.0 inches in aquarium environment.

 


Leaf Fish
The color of the Leaf Fish, also known as the Leaf Scorpionfish, or Paper Fish, varies between red, yellow, brown, or blue.
A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with live rock is suitable for this fish.

PD : An oval shaped fish with strong lateral compression. The mouth is large and the lower jaw has a pointed extension.

The young look a little like leaf fish with a goldfish yellow color that is dotted with white through out. A darker shading near their belly area will develop into the "sideways" teardrop shape seen in the adults.

Although this fish mimics the leaf fish, it is not closely related to the species in the genera Polycentrus and Monocirrhus; nor is it in the genus Anabas (true climbing perch) although it is occasionally seen as A. acutirostris which is invalid.

But other fish are a little more sneaky: clown knives, arawanas, African clawed frogs, leaf fish and garfish have much larger mouths than it at first appears.

Comments: this guy knows his stuff and is a pro at raising chiclids and exotic species like leaf fish, saltwater sharks, rainbow fish, and predators like gars and arowanas.

Leaf fish can only be fed live food, juveniles will accept small live food like bloodworms. Older specimens are more picky, and require live fish.

The other brackish water species, including Scats, Anableps, Archers, Glass Fish, Leaf Fish, Ropefish, Puffers, Eels, Gobies, Monos, Flounders, Mudskippers, White-tipped Catfish, and Gars, ...

My original plan was to do leaf fish, which did not work. They died, and I'm not sure why. The water conditions were good, nitrates never got over 10 ppm, and they weren't being harassed by the pike or the angels.

Summary: These African labyrinth fish resemble the South American leaf fish. They spawn in captivity, but it is difficult to raise the fry.

At dusk: this should have been a day full of "catches and fishes" but, in the end, all we've got are (before the "night float") some characins and Apistos plus 1 (one!) Leaf Fish. Not that satisfied, to say so … ...

They are found in pairs, but sometimes also observed singly or in a small group at depths from 1-134 meters. They are also known as Paper fish, Leaf fish, or flat Scorpionfish, due to their deep compressed body.
