Livebearers prefer to be kept in groups of at least 6 with at least 2 females to each male. This will prevent too much fighting amongst the males and will stop the females from being constantly harassed by the males.

A: Livebearers are voracious eaters and sometimes their stomachs bulge after a full meal. Pregnant livebearers bulge in the stomach area, and it doesn't subside after feeding time -- it just keeps growing.

With livebearers, there is really very little to breeding. Most of them just need some gadget to ensure they won't eat their fry.

Livebearers
The term livebearer is widely used but it is a very general term and is not biologically specific for any particular group of fishes.

Livebearers breed continuously, often monthly. Females will show a bulging stomach and a dark gravid spot near the anal fin. Females will not eat their newborn, but others will.

Livebearers: Fish that produce live young rather than laying eggs. Freshwater livebearers include guppies, mollies, platys, and swordtails.

Breeding: Livebearer! Very difficult, usually the first 2 spawns contain some viable fry, but later spawns consist of dead born young. Apparently this is caused by a vitamin deficiency(vit D.).

Livebearers (guppies, platies, and swordtails) are notoriously effective tank breeders. Keep in mind that breeding does include its own challenges such as keeping the fry (baby fish) from getting eaten and successfully feeding the fry.

Some fish that do much better with added salt would include Goldfish, Koi, African Cichlids, and livebearers. Indeed, the secret to keeping healthy, robust Mollys, Platys, Swordtails, and Guppys is to add salt.

If a male and female guppy are housed together, it is very likely they will spawn. Guppies are livebearers, not egg-layers like most fish, and will produce up to 30 fry at a time.

Gold Wag Swordtails are livebearers, and when breeding, they will produce up to 80 fry. Females should be separated before giving birth. Once born, the fry should be separated from the mother, as Gold Wags will eat them.

The later is usually not a successful because most people do not have another aquarium sitting around which is cycled and empty of predators, so I'd recommend keeping them in the same tank. If they are not hidden though, especially with livebearers, ...
