Loaches are active bottom dwelling scavengers ideally suited for the community aquarium. Loach fish consist of some of the most popular of all tropical fish, adding color, interest, and beauty to any larger community aquarium.

You don't have to include a lot of plants, but some are needed to provide hiding places. Clown Loaches don't like bright lights so keep the tank dimly lit or provide floating plants for cover.

A loach with tons of personality that needs to be properly acclimated to your larger sized tank.

Loaches are freshwater fish of the family Cobitidae, small benthic (bottom-dwelling) fish with a flattened ventral profile. There are 160 different species of them.

Loaches will often be happier if kept with a few of their own species.
Weather Loaches - Misgurnus fossilis and Spotted Weather Loaches - Cobitis taenia should be avoided.

Loaches are freshwater fish belonging to the family Cobitidae. They are generally small, benthic fish, and they have barbel organs similar to those seen in catfish. They are generally hardy and will scavenge in the aquarium.

Loaches are well known for their "bottom-feeder" behavior and this one lives up to that reputation. Normally quite passive this species can be territorial.

Loaches may be prone to parasitic (such as ich) and protozoan infestations and poor water conditions are a major factor. Treatment must be carefully monitored, as loaches are scaleless and thus highly sensitive to any medications or chemicals.

Some loaches are sensitive to poor nitrogen cycle management, which is why they are included here, rather than in the Good First Fish section.

Clown Loaches are a hardy species. They should be in water with a temperature between 77 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Their water should have a pH in a range of six to seven and a half. Clown Loaches are a little more prone to Ich than most fish.

Kuhli Loaches are loners that are most active at night with the lights out. The tank should be decorated with thick bunches of plants and various rocky caves. Light levels should be low, which can be achieved through the use of floating plants.

Zebra loaches have no special requirements on water conditions, they do however prefer a certain aquarium setup to be at their best.

Clown loaches are very prone to disease since they have no scales. Ich is the most common ailment, and often they are seen in the pet store covered in ich spots (makes my blood boil).

Examples are tetras, corys, angels, clown loaches, white clouds, barbs. Some kinds of fish do well in trios - 1 male, two females, so they don't harass the females to death. Examples are gouramis, bettas, guppies, platies, mollies.

Some "Skunk Botia" (Botia morleti) are injected with dyes and painted to produce purple, red, and blue loaches.
Another botia, Botia lecontei, is also sold as a blue loach or blue botia, and is not dyed - though a painted blue botia is now available.

Clown Loaches are suitable for freshwater aquariums 20 gallons and up. They can get quite large but they grow very slow, so they can be put in a small aquarium as long as they are eventually upgraded to a larger tank.

Many catfish and loaches wait until food settles to the tank bottom before beginning to feed, which makes them useful in cleaning up some of the scraps the other fish missed.

Clown is a name often given to fish, clown anemone fish, loaches and plecos all bear than moniker either because of bold, often brash colouration or because of comical or quirky captive behaviour. This is true of S. decorus too.

For ridding your tank of snails, you have little recourse other than vacuuming as many up as possible, though clown loaches are rumored to eat snails. The SNAIL SECTION of the DISEASE FAQ describes individual species of snails and specific remedies.

Laboratory studies proved that it is safe for even the most delicate fish species, including tetras, discus fry and scaleless fish, like clown loaches. It can be used with all marine fish, invertebrates, such as live corals and anemones.

Catfish and loaches are the most common aquarium bottom feeder fish. There are 37 known families of the catfish. But their compatibility with other fish need to be judged.

It will appear that the tetras brought the ich to the new tank, but they can actually be reacting to small levels that were already present. Ich frequently affects tetras and clown loaches. It can also affect many other fish, including exotic plecos.
