Maylandia LOMBARDOI - Male
My very first African (along with an electric blue hap) is understandably my beloved fish. When I bought it little did I know about aggression but it taught me the basics in no time at all.

Pseudotropheus lombardoi, n, 19
Kennyi, Kenyi cichlid
Origin: Afrika, Lake Malawi. Here the fish occur at depths of 6-30 meters in sediment rich areas
Etymology: Named after John Lombardo, a fish importer.

Kennyi (Pseudotropheus lombardoi) are very good cichlids to keep in your first Malawi setup. They work pretty well with each other, and are not overly agressive towards other fish.

Do not clean the algae from the back and side glass as this forms a large part of Pseudotropheus lombardoi's diet. Frequent water changes are needed as Pseudotropheus lombardoi is sensitive to nitrate levels.

Kenyi Cichlids, also known as "Lombardoi Cichlids", usually remain in the middle to bottom portions of their enclosures.

Scientific Name(s): Pseudotropheus lombardoi, Pseudotropheus liliancinius, P. kennyi
Common Name(s): Kenyi, Blue Kenyi, Kenyi Cichlid, Kenyii, Kennyi ...

It is also called a Lombardoi and a Blue kenyi. Juveniles are blue. Adult females also retain this coloration, while males turn a yellow. The Kenyi prefers muddy areas where sediment has accumulated.

Lombardois are best kept in a species tank with other Lambardois. They are mouth-breeders. Males are yellow with faint bars crossing the body vertically. Males also have egg-spot(s) on the anal fin.

Pseudotropheus lombardoi
SYN: Pseudotropheus liliancinius, P. kennyi
PD: The Kennyi has a "typical" Mbuna shape. The coloring depends on the age and sex of the fish. Females are pale blue to blue with six to eight transverse, black bands.

I saw my first African cichlids (Maylandia lombardoi and Melanochromis auratus) at my friend's house who was an expert aquarist and had the biggest cichlids I have ever seen, even to date.

Of the Lake Malawi fishes, the most common species are Zebras, Pindani, Lombardoi and others. People often start with these species as they are cheaper and show color while still young.

The Kenyi Cichlid, Pseudotropheus lombardoi, is an aggressive medium sized cichlid that originates from the rocky shores of Lake Malawi in Africa. The female is blue with black bars and the male turns to a yellow color as it matures.
