Auratus, Malawi Golden Cichlid [picture]

PD: Young individuals have females coloring which consists of a golden-yellow base color with three black bands.

The Auratus is an mbuna or rockfish and is also known as the Golden Mbuna and the Malawi Golden Cichlid. The scientific name was previously Pseudotropheus auratus. The females have the brighter coloration, which is a rarity in the fish world.

It is also known as golden mbuna and Malawi golden cichlid. It is endemic to the southern region of Lake Malawi, particularly from Jalo Reef southward along the entire western coast down to Crocodile Rocks.

There are 12 genera full of very active and aggressive personalities. Other common names or different spellings these fish are known by are the Golden cichlid, Golden Pseudotropheus, Mbuna, and Malawi Golden Cichlid.
