Black Mollys are easy to care for. They need warm water temperatures, from 79 to 86 degrees. Black Mollys need a pH of 7.5 to 8.2 and like a small amount of salt in their water.

Poecilia molinesia sphenops is a very popular fish, known as molly. It is spread in Central America from Mexico to Columbia, where it lives fresh waters.

The Giant Sailfin Molly is one of the largest species of Mollies. Males will reach 6 inches in length while females will be a bit larger at 7". The body will be white or silver. The scales will be small, yet very pronounced.

The third candidate is a rare Veiltail Molly with a long flowing caudal. The fourth candidate is a huge Anableps. The fifth potential winner is a vividly colored Red Swordtail, which is extremely large.

Common Mollies are the Black Molly (which was derived from the Marled Molly - Poecilia sphenops) and the Sail-Fin Molly - Poecilia velifera (of which there are also several color varieties available).

It was a molly which was born that same day. Instead of giving it to the Africans, Johnny decided to keep it and start a tank of his own (a 15 liter acrylic tank at that moment).

If you keep more than one Dalmatian lyretail molly, its a good idea to keep two females only. If creating a school, make sure there are more females than males so the males wont be constantly pressuring the females.

Pictured is the black molly. These livebearers like some aquarium salt in the water and will give lots of fish babies. Be responsible and only breed them if you have a plan for what to do with all the fry.
